Skiathos town

Skiathos Town is the main hub for tourism in Skiathos. It has an old town with narrow streets and colorful buildings overlooking the sea. There are many shops selling souvenirs made by local artists such as handmade jewelry and pottery as well as restaurants serving traditional Greek food like chicken souvlaki (pita bread stuffed with grilled chicken), gyros (Greek-style shawarma), pastitsio (a baked pasta dish with ground beef or lamb), lentil soup, feta cheese salads and potatoes cooked in tomato sauce with onions known as ‘loukoumades’

History in Skiathos

You can also find some interesting historical sites on Skiathos including the Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani which is located on a hill overlooking the sea. This monastery was built in 1210 by Komnenos Palaiologos, who was the governor of Thessaloniki at that time. It was originally built as a church but later became a monastery after it was destroyed by pirates in 1390. The Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani is now considered one of the most important monasteries in Greece because of its unique architecture style which combines Byzantine elements with western influences from Venice or Genoa (both Italian cities).

Another historical site that you should visit when traveling around Skiathos island is Agios Nikolaos Church which dates back to 1200 BC but was rebuilt several times over the years due to earthquakes or other natural disasters such as landslides etc

Also visit the Castle of Skiathos. This castle has been standing since the 13th century and was used as a defensive position against pirates in the past. It has stunning views from its top observation deck, which is open all year round (and free!).
